This is not mentioned in the manual but the first time you power on a blue light shows on the control box, the light strip does not switch on. The blue light is bluetooth/network pairing it seems, I had to unplug the cable and re-connect at which point a yellow light showed on the controller and the light strip came on. You only get a couple of different settings on the control box and a couple more if you install the software(scan QR code with smartphone). I wish it had two connector heads instead of one extendable one (upto 10m) so I could have two strips going separate ways powered by one strip instead of 1 big long one or two separate strips. Software is a little hard to use and Yeelight station app modes 'Colour Play' and 'Music Flow' have pretty bad latency issues, music flow having the worst latency. Lights themselves are great, software not so much.

I was pretty disappointed with this initially and after research as the strip only appears as a single light rather than having assignable sections. But updating to the latest firmware for the strip, it is now assignable in sections. With this update I would be very happy with it, the strip has very good colour accuracy matching colours on screen and decent brightness, but there is significant latency of around 300-400ms between the software sending a command to the strip and the lighting changing - this makes it not very good for anything with fast moving action, and the Music Flow is kind of useless unless you want flashing disco lights that are out of sync with the music being played. The strip also doesn't work as a smart strip with no internet connection. It seems like the way the light works is your PC sends the commands to the Yeelight server in Singapore and then the server sends commands back to the actual light. I do have some hope of the software improving and latency possibly being better controlled with other software or more servers (if the system does work like that) - though brief experiment with Razer Synapse integration seemed to not make any difference - though that still uses the Yeelight software
